has anybody mentioned grinding your own optics? mirrors, eyepieces, objectives?
absolutely fascinating stuff! keeps the intelect sharp, and with all the grinding a little exercise too!
with technology the way it is there must be some great computer programmes available for any optical surface imaginable
i was reading recently how the optical designers choose their optical glasses to reduce all aberations inherent in all index and how they bring them together through mutual annhialation of said glasses
i have quite an old book on optical design by wilman bell(?) (i think) though this may be the producer
anyhow that is what i would most like to do in the world and it would be relatively inexpensive
