What that means is with levels you have moved the left hand slider too far to the right and it cuts out data that is in the darker parts. It makes the background blacker but there is also some data in that band. So the usual
thing here is to move that slider to just before the bellcurve of data begins.
In other words leave a bit of space to the left of your histogram when processing. Faint nebula and delicate colours are in that area of the histogram.

Thank you so much for the great feedback and processing tip Greg I really appreciate it. I'll certainly have another go at processing this one and i'll try not to clip the background. Being new to this (only been imaging for about 4 months) I sort of feel bad if the background is not very dark. A habit I obviously need to get out of. Thanks again (and good to meet another Greg on here too ).
