The maths you see in "Universe" is a reasonably good indication of the basic level you will need to pass your course. However, you will need to learn some more. But, if you want to really understand what you're being taught and to see what level you should be aiming for, then buying Carroll and Ostlie (Intro to Modern Astrophysics) is required. Observational Astrophysics, can be bought from there as well. It's a basic book that covers the theory at a reasonable level that's easy to get into. It's basically an introductory text.
