Evening light in the Old Town, Warsaw

Hi all,

Here's a few images of the Old Town in Warszawa, illuminated by the last bit of sun for the day. The first 3 are in the Old Town Square (Rynek), and the last one is looking towards the Royal castle.

This place is amazing because like most of Warsaw it was totally flattened during WWII, and yet the Poles have rebuilt it with such extraordinary attention to detail that it's now the only reconstruction on the World Heritage list. (We visited the museum of the Warsaw uprising while there, which I would say is a compulsory stop for anyone visiting Warsaw. The population of the city on September 1st 1939 was 1.3 million; on 1st August 1944 (start of the uprising) it was 900000; and by the start of 1945 it was less than 1000... It certainly gives you an indication of the scale of the devastation.)

Anyway, I hope you like the images. I have lots more taken during the middle of the day which I'll happily post if anyone is interested!

Cheers,
Stephen
