I put an SSD in the laptop, and have never looked back. I removed the CD-Drive and put a cradle in that let me mount a 2nd hard drive in the laptop.
That way you can get an affordable 60GB SDD for fast-drive needs, and a cheap huge 750GB for storage. Best of both worlds and no worries about drive speeds or hiccups.

Which camera, scope etc? We wants details
