Carl I had an excellent journey ended up following links to stuff I had not covered.(navier Stokes equations and related matter..most interesting)
I had to laugh on one forum via the links there was a chap who thought push was responsible

. Clearly he thought that was a new idea on gravity ..should have registered and told him LeSage (1745) beat him on that approach.
I did find out the hypothisised graviton can possibly travel faster than light (never knew that) so that solves my perceived problem with getting the " message" of gravity past the black hole event horizon.
