This is how most astroimagers separate their images and each have their own approach and difficulty levels. Otherwise the astronomy theme is a bit watered down and this would strengthen it without weakening the wide appeal of the broad categories currently being used. I don't think a galaxy image has ever won for example, nor a narrowband.

An interesting proposition Greg. It might well make it easier for David to select the image he likes in that category. Perhaps the solar system hi res could be similarly expanded so that

Solar
planets
Plutoids and asteroids

However, I think it unlikely your suggestion or mine could be implemented. What about something like:

Galactic
Intergalactic?

That is only a small sub category but could mean quite a bit to guys submitting DSO images at hi res.

The bottom line though is that you have to attract the attention of David and what he likes. It does not mean your image is not great if you don't win anything. It just means that you may or may not have David's attention.
