You also need to realise that it wasn't a Hollywood/Western culture movie: it was a South African movie I believe. Humour is always a bit different in each culture. Mr Bean was VERY popular when I lived in Zambia. They enjoyed that "silly" style of humour. Needless to say, the Gods must be crazy was also a favourite in Zambia.
