And when you're done with that you can use it for a newer drive and backup your laptop data in case you drop it in the future. And backing up to an external drive is just a good idea regardless.

I was going to attach a monitor and see if the laptop still works and just backup my work to an external drive.
The laptop works with another monitor and I have backed up the data I needed. It appears its only the LCD and case thats damaged.
