Another very firm vote for the Leki sprung trekking poles with the removable knob. I have two for mountain trekking and wold never be without them. They provide stability in tricky and slippery terrain as well as removing accumulated shock weight from your knees over the duration of the hike.

They also make a great length-adjustable monopod!
