I think the coming decade has the potential to be particularly grim due to economic stress - evil people may find fertile ground for their ideas among the masses desperate for change.
I think the responsibility for the current situation lies with a handful of rich and powerful bankers who infiltrated politics to bend laws to suit themselves. We unwittingly participated in the debt binge but they knew exactly what they were doing.
I'm hopeful for our species though since most people are good and decent - perhaps if we put more emphasis on teaching history the people will be wise enough to choose better leaders.(I know, I know, wishful thinking
)
In the meantime enjoy the kids, enjoy the skies, and get a passport to another country should it be needed.
