Have to agree with you, this was the darkest eclipse I have seen. It might be due to the ash but it was passing close to the centerline of the shadow. Quite happy that the camera could pull out the moon even though it was so dark visually.

True, but I don't recall the July 2000 eclipse to be as dark as this one.
