Don't buy it!

Don't buy an equatorial if it isn't a goto. They're hard to use, I should know, I had one.

As stated by Allan and Stephen, your local club will have viewing nights for anyone who wants to come.
You can see lots of scopes and ask questions.

A Dobsonian telescope is a fantastic simple scope for beginners and
experienced observers.

The majority of observational amateur astronomers (as opposed to astro photographers) use a Dobsonian telescope.
