Malcolm,
As Geoff pointed out, read the question carefully and objectively.
For example, when I went back to do my trade certificate in 2007, I got into a big barney with the Tafe senior electrical teacher over certain questions. I ended up going from 65% correct to 95% correct because even the head teacher did not read and understand the question which eliminated many of their "answers". EG
What Australian Standard mandates the requirements for testing electrical circuits?
a) Electricity Act 1996
b) Electricity Regulation xyz
c) AS 3000
d) Occupational Health and Safety Act 1991
The answer of course is (c) even if you did not know the answer because the question asked for what "Standard". Acts of parliament are not standards so it eliminates most of the choices. It has worked very well for me.
Read the question objectively and look for the key words (often nouns) in the question and watch out for questions which are discrete but not obvious in the way it is written.
Good luck!!!
