So after unscrewing the middle section and finding the batteries I soldered the connection back together and got the torch working again, only the switch assembly now comes loose when I turn on the LED. I'm thinking of putting a spot of Loctite in the thread to keep it from unscrewing.
So if you get an illuminated reticle, best check how to change the batteries before actually trying it.
