It's certainly not a stupid question Jodie. The sudden flare would probably cause them a little night blindness in that eye for a few minutes, but very unlikely it would cause any real damage. Unlike looking at the sun there is no damaging radiation coming from the firework, just bright light and while intense bright light, particularly when it is sustained can cause problems, its unlikely in this situation. Just think if you would look at them through a pair of binoculars and extend that to a telescope
