In the cold light of day, having allowed some time to pass since this debate flared, I remain of the same opinions I expressed yesterday.
but added to this, is the nagging doubt as to exactly whose interests were being protected and served?
And I think someone made the very valid point that a democratic community such as this is more than capable of being self-moderating.
If someone's got a complaint I think it's only fair and respectful they make that complaint open and in the public domain if they truly believe it to be a fair and valid complaint, rather than just maybe grinding their own axe behind closed doors?
Having said that, I will repeat the point I've also made before that moderators are an essential aspect of sites such as these. There are a myriad of ways that we can run into trouble... in these highy litigious days.
I just think we need to be a little more "moderate" and a little less reactionary.
I don't think you can place a high enough value on having good, well-informed and educated individuals acting in this capacity.
I think this has been a bit of a lesson ... for all of us
