I don't believe these instruments will work for star spectra - they are not sensitive enough to gather adequate photons.

I have tried a couple of times, but the amount of light from a magnitude 1-2 star was insufficient to resolve the peaks.

Someone else might have more luck.

They will work with the moon and sun though.

I mainly use my spectrometer for minerals.
