I too run Win7 64-bit, but despite selecting IE9 64-bit as my download, found that MS Update automatically set up
both IE9 32-bit AND 64-bit on my system but then defaulted to the 32-bit version! (This might be what caused your problem, John.) Trust Microsoft to get some things right and still get other key things wrong.
YouTube seems to be a non-starter under IE9 64-bit too - site asks for a Flash upgrade but the Adobe download won't run. You'd think MS would have learnt by now to solve any problems for popular sites before releasing a major "upgrade".
