Hi people,

Thanks for inspiring me to do something I had been thinking about for about 20 years (don't rush into anything )

I brought one of these nice cases from Bunnings Villawood (they are sold as tool cases and i found them in the electrical tool department. Then it was off to a Clark rubber. They sell the same foam as the camera cases use (look for the fairly rigid black, a little expensive, ones). I only saw them in 25mm and 50mm thinkness. I used a sandwich of 3 layers 25, 50, 25. The cost was $19, custom cut in the shop (so take the box in!). These fit the case nicely with about 20mm for some reference books in the lid. After playing with it I think a 10mm top and bottom (if it is available) would have worked just as well leaving more room for more books. My eps, telrad etc seem to fit in the 50mm layer nicely (but I don't have Naglers, so be careful).
wrt to cutting the ep shapes. It is easy to do and don't worry it isn't precut (let's face it, the total cost is less than half you would pay in a camera store). The lady recommended using an electric carving knife. I found a box knife with a new blade, full extended worked well (only a few rough spots). This is the type of knife that you extend to break off a new section,NOT the traditional Stanley type.

Anyway I hope this is of help to some one.

Regards

Glenn
