I think as everyone has pointed out, if you try to adjust your C14 to finder you are in a world of pain. You have to find something bright and recognisable in your C14 first (hunt around), then adjust your finder to suit.
On a Gemini 1, there is a search function that starts where you are looking and systematically spirals outward to predefined distance.
When your object comes into view just hit any button and it stops on it, then adjust the finder scope to the object.
