In contrast District 9 didn't have any major plausibility hurdles and the multiple story lines and interesting lead character made it enjoyable for me. The best science fiction has something to say about humanity.

It's a movie about alien shock-troopers full-scale global incursion. Does it need plausibility? This movie is all about action.
Perhaps these aliens have no knowledge of bio warfare where they come from..maybe they have never experienced disease...perhaps they would be vulnerable to it as well and need to occupy the planet for it's resources..who knows? Who cares? It's just a lot of fun and at the end of the day, it's just a movie.
District 9 had holes too, but I loved it. I try to focus on the positve aspects. If the movie is entertaining, I am prepared to overlook a few holes.
Skyline on the other hand..well...
