BTW, regarding that

Sydney Ice Co" into Google and looking at a couple of the links that come up. By the mid 19th century bulk ice was sometimes made in refrigerators (bigger versions of the ones that you wave away as being the same as iceboxes) for sale to people who wanted it. Just as well for the horses who got to avoid some of the mountains.
