I made this image in almost knee-deep water. This is Matai Falls, in the Catlins region on the South Island of New Zealand.

This image, along with A Moment Forever Caught in Time, may be my two achievements thus far where I feel the light could not have been caught any other way.

My goal is to capture light in such a way that my photographs resemble or recreate the light found in neoclassical paintings, particularly those by Rembrandt and Eybl. While I have a long way to go to anywhere near perfecting that kind of lighting in the photographs I make, I relish moments like this where planning and waiting for the right light all comes together in execution with the click of a shutter.

Slightly higher resolution version available here.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
2s f/11.0 at 40.0mm iso200

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.
