new EOS600D a quick evaluation

Its want Ive been waiting for, with the movable screen and above all, video. here is a full sized image of Newcastle beach area at a full 18 megapixels. Not for dialup! Low res image included here

Here is a single frame from a video of a cricket game today, I was cycling past and thought it would be a good test. The 600D can do video zoom where the central part of the sensor is used at 1to 1 resolution while still at full HD, a feature that made be decide for the 600D, as it might be great for lunar imaging. It works out at about 3x zoom, so the 50mm lens I was using becomes a 150mm. You can zoom further but then starts losing resolution.

ISO goes up all the way to 12800 but images are a tad grainy for obvious reasons, but useful if you are caught in low light without a tripod

One bummer, while the battery pack is the same size and shape as one that fits the 450D, it doesnt fit, its a different pack. Perhaps it delivers a higher current for the video.

Needless to say a modded 600D would be a great imaging tool, and a cooled one even better! Ive yet to do any long exposure tests for thermal noise.

EDIT: here is a youtube vid of some of the "locals" at feeding time I shot today. It was shot with the 50 mm lens using manual video exposure, ISO 100, 1/60sec shutter speed, at f9, with the 3x video zoom
