Actually, I think the plane was not close to the moon at all... and strongly suspect it was still in the Earth's atmosphere

BTW don't know about the Embraer's but a little known fact is:
If you could produce the same thrust *at altitude* in an A380, as you can at sea level, there is more than enough power to make orbit.
