Yes, question is if we'll even make the average - often we don't, like last winter - dry summer 2009-2010, dry winter in 2010, now a bone dry summer 2010-2011. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not 2011 we get good rain, but have to wait until at least 2012.

cold. Obviously based on your experience in the West, one has to be careful of what
one wishes for.

Yes, careful what one wishes for - no floods please
If only we could share the weather around the country more evenly.

Yes, 2010 and 2011 summers have both been very dry, this one feels drier and longer than 2010, but that may just be because the bush didn't recover from 2010 due to the dry winter, so is suffering very heavily now. It's amazing how thin the bush is - mature 5-10m trees are seemingly just dissapearing. You look over a hillside where it was once green Jarrah forest and you can see the ground the whole way - no bush fire or such to clear it, just the thinning of the trees and understory.
Avoid WA in summer? I would go a step further and suggest avoiding the whole of Australia during summer - it's a case of either being scortched in the big dry, flooded, or ripped appart by a cyclone.
Last Feb I spent 2 weeks in Japan skiing. I think I should go live there Dec - March each year. Hmm, how much can I get for the house to finance such a stay
