Mozzie, "Reflux Oesophagitis", it would seem, also known as "Gastroesophageal reflux disease" (GERD). Everyone thought i was having a heart attack the first time I had a major episode back in 1982.

You do want to treat/manage it - in certain circumstances it can lead to "Barrett's Oesophagus" which can lead to cancer in the lower oesophagus. Not good!

Endoscopy next (enjoy!) which will see exactly what is going on at the sphincter between oesophagus and stomach. You should see a nice colour piccie showing the status of inflamation of the lower oesophagus when you come out of the anesthetic.

For me, keeping weight down, some care with choice of foods and drinks, avoiding eating a lot shortly before I go to bed and a Nexium (esomeprazole) tablet a day keeps it managed. Perhaps I'll go for the surgery one day to fix my lazy sphincter.

Anyone getting regular and painful heartburn - I highly recommend that you see your Doctor and get it diagnosed and treated.
