To follow on what Jonathan has said, the Brisbane Astronomical Society in conjunction with SEQAS go to Hazeldean (Stanley River Environmental Centre... I think) up on Somerset Dam. Great venue, good facilities, plenty of power. Can't remember off-hand how much it costs, check out
www.bas.asn.au for details. The site is about 1 1/2 or so from Brisbane.
