My wife and I drove into Laverton not too long after that 130kph wind gust and it showed.

We set off from home - all dry - but a huge thunderstorm to the south. We ran parallel to it until we had to turn towards Laverton/Altona Meadows. WHACK! The rain! No hail thank goodness, but we were down to very slow speed and the road was already starting to overflow. Drains running very full.

Then the rain eased off as we pulled into Laverton to find branches and trees down everywhere and lots of local flooding. It took us a further 30 min to find a way around, across the Freeway, and to the place we had to visit. Spent an evening under candlelight since power was out.

Had a slow drive back on the Freeways/Highway to home with occasional very heavy rain.

Forcast is for calm for some hours, then steady heavy rain much of Saturday. Rule of thumb seems to be - whatever you have received, add another 50mm tomorrow.

Some rainfall totals since late this afternoon:-

Mildura 113mm
Ballarat 51mm
Laverton 26mm to 7:48pm at which point the station lost power
Scoresby 60mm
Moorabbin Airport 104mm
Melbourne 45mm

Some of these are amazing falls. (I believe the Melbourne record is 130mm in 24 hr)

I fear that it's all started again. All the flooding from some weeks ago - it will all happen again and likely worse given the saturation of the whole west of the State.
