I think I have an answer confirming the stars theory.
I met someone who knows someone that used to know an amateur astronomer. (Astronomers are a rare species that is on the endangered list. Bordering on extinction locally.)
Yes, and this amateur astronomer had seen these white dots. He called them stars too.
