I've read somewhere before when I first started into this hobby - here's the link:

Got a better technical understanding of how to polar align after trying the simulator
and within 3 weeks or so was able to drift align easily
The astronomyforum.net thread is quite uesful because it gives a practical explanation of how to actual get the "tools" to do it correctly by that bloke "Vinnie" - yes I've read that article too and it all helps!!
