If it doesn't exist then it doesn't exist. Getting facts is the most important part of science. Maybe the two scientists should team up, gather new data and get the actual facts instead of saying each other is wrong...

Im sure there will be other planets out there in the Goldilocks zone discovered before long.

Even if 581g does exist, we have no way of getting there to check it out anyhow, not for at least another 200 years or so. 20LYs is still 20LYs away, and would still take an extremely long time to get there. However it is a possible future stepping stone to the galaxy, lets just get to Mars first though.
