Try WordPad instead. Better still a proper plain text editor like Notepad++
If you are running 0.10.6.1 you can import the data direct from the MPC.

You'll get a window with a list of comets.

"Mark all" is simplest, otherwise tick the ones you want
"Add objects"
Close the "Import data" and "Solar System objects" windows
"Main", "Save settings" again, and close the "Configuration" window.

type in the box "c/2010 x", the potential completions should now show Elenin, and <enter> should go to it.
If you want something not in the MPC list, use the "Online search" tab, type in the name eg "45P", click the magnifying glass and it should find you the values. It seems to be broken at the moment but usually works. |
Looks like there has been quite a few changes. Notepad opened the previous Stellarium ssystem.ini file quite happily with line breaks etc all shown. I'd be cautious using Wordpad due to possible inclusion of formatting characters. I'll look at Notepad++ but looks like Barry has indicated more updates so maybe an update or reload might be a good option.
