I have fallen in love all over again with Opeth, and have had their debut album, Orchid (released in 1995) on repeat for eons.

The Apostle in Triumph is a standout track for me. Of note: the last 4 minutes and 40 seconds; especially the last 2 minutes and 45 seconds.

There is not a section of the Apostle in Triumph that does not demand repeat listening, and yet the song denies you the luxury of repeating it's greatest moments - instead putting forth new sections that match the greatness of their predecessors, while you still hang on to hear the previous riff. Any other band might have succumbed to the temptation to repeat these moments of brilliance, yet Opeth plow on from greatness to greatness with such apparent ease that, as a musician, it is frankly disconcerting.

That Opeth, and especially the early Opeth of the albums Morningrise and Orchid, should be considered Death Metal is generous to the genre. Opeth have always been something far more than that, and to class them amongst such bands on the basis of the vocal battery does not do justice to their melodic flair and ability to make the progressive accessable. Opeth introduced to Death (and, subsequently, Black) metal genres, but I am yet to find another band able to come even close to their beautifully gothic realisations. It is only this, that has kept the early 90's flannel shirt on my back.
