In my experience 4 chords is quite enough for blues, folk and bluegrass too.
And what changed to the 'rythm' of music in 1960? Oh yes, the rhythmic fineness of Little Richard, Bill Halley and Muddy Waters was lost. Nothing so touching and sensitive has been heard again.
