Just for fun - the other day I got to use an 18th century mast trimmer to do a case mod on my latest resurrected PC.

A mast trimmer is exactly that - think of a two foot samurai sword with handles at each end that are at the ends of the sword, facing forward at right angles. You use it to shape a mast on a wind jammer. I typically use it to make model boats for my kids. BTW carving wood with a mast trimmer is strangely a hell of a lot of fun.

So cutting a long story short - PC goes funny and video card won't work. Purchase new video card and power supply - no joy. So a new motherboard and sata dvd player and I hoped all would go well, but the case's front panel was just too narrow to allow the dvd player to open. I realised the front of the case was molded plastic - that I'd have to trim a few mm for things to work so I took the front of the case to the shed to look for a chisel - when I spotted the mast trimmer; huge grin walked its way across my face.

Weirdly enough a 100+ year old mast trimmer works really well on a PC case's tough front panel. So I wonder has anyone else modified new age technology with something that was invented a long time before cars or telephones were invented?
