When we were attending the Queanbeyan flood a few weeks ago I was also amazed at the amount of parents letting their children paddle at the waters edge. With a measured flow rate of 6m per second it would only take one slip and their child would be gone.
What was more amazing was the dirty looks from the parents when we tell the kids to get back. Some people just don't get it.
