Hello all
One of the core reasons I took this job in the U.S was the opportunity to set up a remote observatory before returning to Australia.

Well, its finally happened. I have been on the list for Sierra Remote Observatories (http://sierra-remote.com) since 2008 and it now has the go ahead for its expansion and construction will begin in Spring 2011 and be operational by the Summer of 2011.


This is a pristine site – sub-arc-second seeing is the norm and a very high number of clear skies. It’s not as dark apparently as NMS, but it’s seeing is better - just take a look at the gallery on the SRO website.


I am looking for a serious partner and my very initial thoughts is to do this on a 12-month trial basis to see how it goes. That gives us both the opportunity to bail out for whatever reason. I will also happily consider a 3-way split, myself and two others.

I will place the following kit up there. Paramount ME, 12.5” RCOS, Precision Instrument Rotator, OAG, SBIG STL11K with CFW8-L, (Don Goldman GenII LRGB filters plus 5nmHa,5nmSII, 3nmOIII, 5nmNII) integrated with an AO-L. I am still thinking about putting the FSQ on top with an ST8300, 5 position FW, OAG and Lodestar. I will make the drive out to Sierra Nevada next year to set to work.
