NGC 1316 - The smoke screen galaxy (with core detail)

Here I reprocessed my recent image of galaxy NGC 1316 in Fornax.

I reoriented the galaxy (I think it looks better this way?) removed the colour noise from the faint halo and using layer blending set out to reveal the very faintest outer halo details. The halo is a wonderful complex mix of subtle shell structures that extends quite a way out from the two interacting galaxies.

Those without harsh contrasty screens should see an extensive billowing subtly structured halo

The image is about 80% of full res and sized so when viewed at 100% will fit nicely on a 22" screen in full screen mode (F11)

NGC 1316 a smoke screen

ED: Here is a look deep in the core of NGC 1316 and compared to Hubble
