A Very Special 8" Newtonian - HUGE PRICE DROP

Health concerns cause me to sell my beloved telescope. It is a beautifully crafted instrument, constructed by Cris Ellis and me,as follows:

204mm Hand Crafted Reflecting telescope technical specification
  • 204mm hand crafted ultra high accuracy reference grade precision Newtonian parabolic primary mirror
  • Primary mirror construction from highest grade Japanese finest grade fine annealed pyrex glass
  • Primary mirror hand aluminised and silicone dioxide (SiO2) overcoated for maximum performance and to achieve the longest coating life (this will last up to 20 years based on it’s being taken good care of)
  • Focal ratio f6, Focal length 1200mm
  • Primary mirror cell premium unit design hand crafted, using extra heavy duty spring set and stainless steel fasteners
  • Secondary mirror hand crafted ultra high accuracy reference grade precision optically matched 1.82 inch size
  • Secondary mirror construction from highest grade Japanese finest grade fine annealed pyrex glass
  • Secondary mirror hand aluminised and SiO2 overcoated for maximum performance and longest coating life (again this will last up to 20 years based on it’s being taken good care of)
  • Central spider assembly in heavy duty stainless steel & aluminium, Belgian manufactured
  • Secondary holder unit premium quality in stainless steel and aluminium, again Belgian manufactured, with full collimation adjustment (optical alignment) capability, 1.82 inch size
  • Focuser ultra premium Phase 4 Crayford ultra smooth operation, 2 inch size (complete with 1 ¼ inch adaptor) USA premium quality manufactured from kevlar, chromed steel, stainless steel and aluminium
  • Telrad wide field (1 magnification) finderscope (nearly all amateur astronomy enthusiasts swear by these units and would not be without one, I am sure you will also feel the same after you have used this for a short period of time)
  • Bintel 8x50 correct image 90° finder scope
  • Telescope tube in 10 inch ID Sonotube (6mm wall thickness), including hand made caps both ends
  • Collimation will be completed using high output laser collimator for precise optical alignment of the system optics, and locked up to ensure the alignment remains intact whilst system is transported (including transport locally in your region)
  • External tube and finished in super high gloss black enamel
  • Dobsonian boxed mount and construced from aluminium square tube, significantly braced including an innovative OTA balancer and eyepiece rack; and mounted on a substanital base. Base is removable for transport.
  • Internal tube lining using Zeiss Flock A block out/ black out material (maximising contrast and optical detail)
Further words from Cris:

Please note this is a reference grade high specification astronomical unit. It is manufactured to the highest quality and uses premium components and materials throughout in it’s construction.

And now my words:

While it really is all about quality and the image, this telescope is a thing of beauty that performs exceptionally well. It is quite substantial for an 8", the tube being 1420mm long. Fogging is a really rare event as the optics are well inboard from the ends of the tube. Atmosphere inside the tube is very stable, tube currents don't happen! Collimation is remarkably stable, requiring only gentle tweeks in the 20 months since construction. And the movement is just sublime!

The eyepieces used in the photos are not included in this sale, but the buyer may have options on those and other stuff.......

Inspection is invited. $1350.00 (previously $2100.00)
