You definitely have to stack frames to eliminate turbulences, noise and improve the level of detail.
I'm not sure how it works for the moon, but the software Registax is a real treat for planets. You might want to give this a try! The best is to have as many frames as you can of course!

The shot was taken with the DSLR and I did take multiple shots on the evening. I think as mentioned above that registax is not mac compatible. Apparently ImageJ and Lynkeos are capable of stacking but I'm not having much luck with them at the moment. More research and advice needed perhaps.
