I bought this mount about a year ago, and have been using it to learn, begin autoguiding etc - but now it is time to move on.
This is a fantastic mount for visual use - will carry up to an 8" newt, although not in a stiff breeze
. smaller refractors are no problems at all.
I have struggled with autoguiding this mount - probably due equally to my own and the mounts shortcomings. There have been times when it all seems to go smoothly, and other times when I would happily put it in the path of an oncoming train (
after taking off the synscan...) At the moment it will guide happily for a short while, but then there is a slight jump in the DEC axis. It still needs some adjustment (most likely to the dec worm) which it seems I have neither the skill nor the patience for.
The price mostly reflects the cost of the synscan goto system, which I bought in October 2009 for $720 off Ron at Sirius Optics. The extra counterweights were $80 or $90 from York Optical (may they rest in peace). The mount I bought 2nd hand off astrobuysell in September 2009 for $250.
All up I have spent over $1000.
