I'm sorry to hear the negatives about York Optical. As a newbie, I bought my scope from them, paid $10 more than the advertised prices by other Sydney retailers at the time, mainly because of the good advice and patient, interested service I received. Of the other retailers, one chose to ignore me for over 20 minutes while they chatted behind the counter screen over a cup of coffee, another was only interested in bagging everyone else in the trade and their products. The only other retailer I have subsequently found on a par with York was Andrews.
I guess that, if you know what you want, price will be the over-riding consideration, but for an inexperienced newcomer, patient explanation and no hard sell will often be worth a few extra dollars.
