Being an avid Sherlock Holmes/Conan Doyle reader since birth, I was keen to see the new Ch.9 series with the British actor Benedict Cumberbatch playing the central role. The series is set in modern-day London, and Holmes is rather clued-in on the technology of the day. Not a bad premise already.
After watching the first episode I'm reasonably impressed with the style of the presentation, and in particular with Cumberbatch's performance. It's authoritative and forceful, akin in many respects to Hugh Laurie's portrayal of "House". It's witty and well written.
Already my favourite passage:
Quote:
Watson: "I just ran into a man who told me that he was your mortal enemy."
Holmes: "Did he offer you money to spy on me?"
Watson: "He did, yes."
Holmes: "Did you accept?"
Watson: "No."
Holmes: "You should have accepted of course - we could have split the proceeds, You must think it through next time Watson."
