Its an off axis filter Marc. I'm told once you get over 8" there is no advantage in a full aperture filter as the seeing generally isn't good enough to give much in the way of sharp frames. The limit might actually be as low as 4 or 5" depending on which source you refer to, but an 8" scope is limited to a 3" off axis filter, so they tend to go full aperture...

To be honest I haven't checked the tube temperature... my old C8 with a full aperture Baader Film filter used to get just slightly warm, the C11 only has a 4" aperture in the filter, so the effect should be at least 1/4 of what it was on the C8 (based on filter area and the increase size of the scope).
