Klingon language does have real world application; I recall seeing a job ad for a US mental institution which had fluent Klingon as a pre-requisite. I guess one of the patients would only converse in Klingon.
We watched one of the New Voyages fan produced episodes guest starring the original actor who played Sulu - we managed to watch it all the way through but it was tough going
