I've read most of a book called "The Observers Guide to Stellar Evolution", by Mike Inglis. I had it out from the local astro clubs library, but didn't finish it before having to take it back. Will get it out again soon to finish it.
It was very understandable and it is for the observer, so after each chapter, it has a list of objects to observe according to the stage of their evolution.
A book I would definately buy if I had the spare cash.
