Sometimes though, you can make the system work to your advantage.

Havent had a chance to test this out in recent years due to being a good driver........ but in NSW it used as follows

If you get a traffic fine with demerit points, and you were close to your limit of demerit points, you could postpone the impending doom by just delaying paying the fine.

Demerit points are not deducted from your license until payment (ie guilt) is made. You could quite easily delay your demerit point for nearly 6 months as the werent backdated.

Day 0 = Fine
Day 30-40 = 1st RTA remimder
Day 60-80 = 2nd RTA reminder
Day 90-100 = Office of State Debt Recovery notification
Day 120-150=Payment to SDO
Day 150-180=Demerit points taken after SDO notifies RTA.

The timeline might have changed in recent years, but you should still easily get 3 months grace.
