1. Noise in the darks and shadows is amplified.
2. You gain nothing if the original exposure was clipped anyway, in shadows or highlights.

If either of the above are not a problem in your image, it truly isn't a high dynamic range scene, didn't require those techniques to start with and you could have just used curves or something.
